The oil industry has developed various EOR techniques, some targeted at reducing the IFT between fluids, some at increasing the sweep efficiencies, while others at reducing the viscosity of the crude oil. However, some of these techniques are cost ineffective due to the nature, volume required and availability.
The obvious technique that comes to mind, with respect to the above mentioned mechanisms and limitations is chemical flooding. Chemical flooding is one of the most efficacious EOR methods even at low pressure as it can alter wetting properties of reservoir rocks, lower capillary forces and can decrease the IFT value significantly to an ultra-low value of 10-3 to 10-4 mN/m, and this allows for simultaneous emulsification and displacement of the oil. However, the success of chemical flooding depends on a number of factors including: the selection of suitable chemical that gives better surface and interfacial properties, good crude oil emulsification/mobilization, low chemical losses and good mobility control. Often times, the required volume and cost of the chemicals limit chemical flooding projects to laboratory and pilot scale.
CleanScript has developed a novel technique that overcomes all the limitations on chemical flooding.
